Who turned off the heat?!
I climbed into bed well after midnight last night (this morning?!) and was shivering beneath the covers, so I did the naughty thing and put my electric blanket on. What is wrong with that, you ask? Well, two days ago it was well over 30C, complete with a bright blue summery sky and the brightest sun going around - minutes beneath it and my skin began to burn! Today there is a blustery icy wind and this can only mean one thing - on go the ugg boots and cardigan whilst I tag up oodles of earrings!

It Was A Nice Day For A White Wedding.

Yesterday, I had the completely amazing privilege of being apart of one of the most dreamy, beautiful and enjoyable weddings... although, this was my first I've been in and the very first wedding I've ever attended in my entire life as a guest!
It was the marriage of two amazingly in love people - two of my greatest friends, Megan and Dave.

The concept of time really does fly out the window when you hit your 20's. It truly feels like only 6 months ago that we were partying it up at their engagement party... alas, that was in November 2010. Where does the time go!
When Megan first told me of their wedding date, I am fairly certain (along with the other bridesmaids) that I said: "that is YEARS away!" - sure, it literally was... but little did we know just how quickly time would fly by in those 20 months of preparing and planning.

I think I may have been a little naive to just how many details go into planning a wedding; I helped out where I could with what knowledge I could pull from all corners of my mind. I was tickled pink when Megan asked me to help design a wedding favour for the female guests - we tossed around plenty of ideas and ended up with doing a wine charm laser cut from Tasmanian Myrtle wood - complete with bronze feather and leaf charms. On the back we had engraved "Megs & Dave - 28.01.12" - sweet huh!

And of course - the flowers... who isn't a sucker for flowers and decorations at a wedding! This is where Megan struck up a friendship with my lovely florist friend Lauren. Twisted willow altar and pew ends - old recycled jars and milk bottles, wrapped with paper doilies, cotton tape, twine and hessian became the vessels for the freesias, gum nuts, green hydrangeas and lisianthus blooms... our bouquets tied with lace handles - with the lace bodice of Megan's dress being the inspiration.
Speaking of the dresses - I failed to get a proper photo of them but rest assured the awesome photographer & videographer crew... Jesse Hunniford & Will Brown (who kindly filled in for regular camera man Scott Atkins) would have got all of that covered and as soon as I have my mitts on some shots, I'll be sure to share them!

It was a truly memorable day... made even more so when the bridal car - the beautiful Ford Falcon that Dave and his mates spent months on restoring - failed to make it up the top of the hill in the vineyard, resulting in a bridal party in a fit of laughter and a crew of male guests rolling up their sleeves in an attempt to push us up the hill! The effort was truly appreciated but not enough to make it to the top, instead we all took a deep breath, got out of the car and helped Megan and her gown up the hill to begin the walk down the aisle, to the sound of Jesse Higgs (my sister's boyfriend - small world huh!) playing a beautiful rendition of "Saving Grace" by Pete Murray.
Oh my - the goosebumps and tingles are back as I write this!
Got to love a day full of love!

Rolling Away.

The last few days, the strong smell of freshly cut wooden pieces has filled the That Vintage workspace - my thumb is stained with the smell also from rolling off the pieces of protective tape from the wood.
It is also pretty neat doing this process; I'm pretty much in love with Tasmanian Myrtle - it is warm in colour and has such a great dark undertone, which makes it perfect for cutting and engraving!
Just look at that contrast!

We are nearly at the end of the first month for 2012 - how on earth did that happen?
The perception of time as you get older, seems to be that it flies by way too quickly - trying to soak up every single moment gets harder with age, but I'm determined this year more than ever to stop and smell the roses.
Last year was a whirlwind - the main goal and highlight was reached when myself and Lauren set up the That Vintage stall at the Sydney Finders Keepers event. Being apart of the Finders Keepers crew has been a dream of mine with That Vintage since day dot and last year, I finally felt I was ready to flap those wings and do it! And do it we did!
There is something about major mainland market events, the buzz of the crowds, meeting new and old lovers of That Vintage and seeing so much talent in the same area - I have now been bitten with the mainland market bug...
I have a huge plan for 2012: That Vintage will be darting across the country, east to west, north to south - and I cannot wait!

This year I opted to turn away from the glittery goodness of Christmas wrapping and went for a more wholesome approach, channeling the wrapping style that I use for That Vintage purchases.
A roll of brown kraft paper, paper doilies, twine and yarn plus some very sweet gift tags that I picked up from kikki.k on the recent trip to Sydney.
I love it when I hear people say: "It is too beautiful to unwrap!" - a comment like that validates the extra time I spend on wrapping!

6:20am Christmas morning, on the deck in my pj's with Blossom - watching the sun light up the morning sky... and saying a little Christmas hello to our beloved pooch Jazz in the skies above.

It is hard to believe that Christmas has been and gone - that the New Year is upon us. December flies. It always does - the older you get, the quicker it seems to pass you by. I find that the zooming by of a full month leaves you reflective and anxious, ready for the new year to begin, for new and exciting adventures to commence.

The That Vintage studio has been in holiday mode for a number of weeks now - it was a hard decision to make, but I personally needed the time out to get myself in the "zone" again. Sometimes, you've got to do whatever it is that you've got to do!
I hope you all had a beautiful Christmas and here's to a bright and inspiring New Year ahead!

Finders Keepers: Done and Dusted!
And what an experience it was...
A huge line of people out the front door just before 6pm; once the door had opened, the people streamed in thick and fast... it was almost like watching the doors of a major department store opening just before a huge sale - except Finders Keepers was twenty thousand times better than any department store sale opening!
The atmosphere, space and music was fab - live band and a great DJ, it really set the mood to "awesome handmade shopping time" - it was buzzing; oodles of inquisitive lovers of handmade casting their eyes over stall after stall of incredible talent.
I got goosebumps a number of times during the event - almost as though I had to pinch myself to make sure this was really happening!
It was lovely to meet the amazing fellow creatives, the loyal and adoring lovers of That Vintage and meet the new lovers also - thanks for coming and saying hello!
Thanks to the crew at Finders Keepers for putting on such a schmick event - it was an experience I'll never ever forget!

It Is Almost Time to Find and Keep!

Wow...
This weekend!
It is on!
We fly out to Sydney on Wednesday... hopefully dodging the thunder storm that is predicted, suitcases fat full of That Vintage goodness.
The market kicks off on Friday, 6pm-10pm and again on Saturday, 10am-5pm at the Carriageworks.
My "wish list" includes some new pieces of jewellery from eels jewellery + scrimshaw and some cuteness in the form of fabric bows from whiskers lane... oh and sweet leather shoes from the horse.
Plus oodles more which I'll stumble upon if I get a chance to wander out from the stall!

A few weeks back, the lovely Cassie contacted me requesting a custom order of Tea Party earrings for her bridesmaids; the way Cassie described how her wedding was going to be gave me goosebumps - it sounded oh-so sweet, beautiful and unique! (Not to mention that I was tickled pink that she wanted to include pieces of That Vintage in her special day!)
And it certainly ended up being that way - the photographs are just divine!
Cassie picked the Sadie Tea Party earrings for her bridesmaids, which complimented their beautiful floral dresses so perfectly!

Can you believe it? Niche: All Wrapped Up is on again in 35 days!
It really is so crazy how fast this year is travelling - I had a moment this morning where I was flicking through my calendar, looking at the rest of October and into November and December, I felt completely pooped after just looking at how chock-a-block the rest of the year is!

Niche: All Wrapped Up is a fabulous event - the crew at St Giles are fantastic and a pleasure to work with at the market.
This time around, the market is going to be bigger and better... four huge rooms, sixty stall holders and the "halls of Niche" will be decked out by the talented Lauren from Leaves & Stems.

It is true about what they say when it comes to the weather in Tasmania and in particular Launceston.
Jacket on, jacket off, jacket on, jacket off.
Today I had to run a few errands in town but I also stopped off in the beautiful Princess Square park to soak up the fresh air and sit in peace for a moment or two.
Walking to the park, there was warmth from the sunshine and beads of sweat were starting to form on my skin, but once I sat down and started to take in the surrounds, the moody grey clouds closed in and all of a sudden, this day of Spring had morphed into a day reminiscent of Autumn.

I received a delightful purchase in the mail yesterday, my very first Bamboo t-shirt from The Little White T-Shirt Company ...and it is heavenly soft, comfortable and actually rather stylish! I wore mine today with a floral blazer and the Bird Pendant - great contrast and I was comfortable, win win!
It is always such a nice feeling knowing that you have purchased something "good" ...carbon neutral, 100% bamboo and from a small business of the proud owner and operator Lynette - who has a heart of gold and such great customer service!

The lovely Madeline was last night eliminated from the Australia's Next Top Model competition.
But she went out on a bright pink, dripping-in-paint high! Just look at how amazing her photograph is! I would say, in my opinion, that would be her best shot in the competition and all the girls looked like they had such fun rolling around in a trough of pink paint... and posing with cute boys!
Big things lie ahead for this girl; her parting words were true, she was who she truly is during the competition, complete with all the little animated animal and dance moves!

I spent this morning out in the sunshine in our garden with a cup of green tea and my kitty Blossom in tow - she now follows me around like a dog, it's amusing but oh-so cute.
The warmth from the sun on your skin instantly makes you feel positive; our garden was glowing this morning so I felt inspired to take some photos and spend sometime observing.
Our Australian native plants are starting to bloom with their intricate flowers, the blossom blooms on the Golden Elm tree are starting to wither as the buds of the new leaves start to evolve and my all time favourite Silver Birch trees are now thickening up with lush green leaves and their whispy pods that as a child, I remember picking and rubbing them between my fingers to let loose all their little poddy-goodness.
Oh nature and Spring, you are such a delight.

Another little road trip out east, zipping by the beautiful lush green Tasmanian countryside - cows, goats, eucalyptus trees, rolling hills of the brightest green grass... destination: Scottsdale Florist & Gifts, a stockist of That Vintage.
It was worth the, albeit windy-road, drive out; the shop is beautiful - there were so many things I wanted to purchase!
In the end I came home with a gorgeous new cabinet and drawer set, (photo to come later, when I find a home for it here!) and also took some snaps of the That Vintage display - which was so beautifully done!
Scottsdale Florist & Gifts has also just taken on the That Vintage Tea Party range - so if you are out that way, be sure to pop in - you won't leave empty handed!

At the moment, I have a lot of built up creative energy - sure, I could channel it into some new design pieces for That Vintage (and I will, don't worry!) but today I felt like I needed to do something for me.
Something for my soul.
I was flicking through my (rescued) albums of artwork on my new iMac (R.I.P PC) and was inspired by myself (if that is even possible?!) to revisit a style of illustration that I use to do a lot of - mixed collage and line ink drawing.
And the above - "The Angle of Flora" - is the end result...
Please click on it for a closer look, the middle is not a smooth join because of the collage background and layering of papers... regardless, I am happy with how it has turned out.
And I feel good.
My soul feels good - I feel like a release has occured!

A Little Friendship Love Wrapping.

One of my closest friends had her birthday earlier this week...
Happy Birthday Megan!
Megan is one of those friends who I can rely on to help out with anything market related for That Vintage - she helps out with packing and loading the stock into the back of her car (a bit like a game of Tetris) to setting up the stall and takes my panicked instructions so gracefully (she's a gem!) to providing the sweetest customer service to the new and long-time lovers of That Vintage.

Aside from her huge involvement in that aspect of That Vintage - Megan also rocks my world on so many other levels - we have had numerous adventures together; dining out, freezing our little toots off in the snow, gazing lovingly at Penguins at the Melbourne aquarium and believe it or not a spot of 4WDing in the mud. A pretty sweet, diverse friendship.
Unfortunately the gift I had picked out for her birthday went missing in action in the postal system, another statistic... (Don't worry, I'm chasing it up!) But I knew she had her eye on a particular piece of That Vintage so I spent some extra time wrapping it up to make it that little bit more special...Of course, accompanied with shouting her to a delicious lunch out before a spot of Bridal accessory shopping - yes, she's getting married and I am apart of the show as a Bridesmaid - so super duper excited!
So here's to you Miss Megan.

Our boy Jazz.

At the end of July, our family went through one of the toughest things possible... losing our cherished labrador dog, Jazz.

Jazz would have been 12 years old this year; he was more than just a pet to us - he was like a brother and son in a dogs costume - he was a wise, gentle natured dog, huge heart and eyes that made you melt; and he was a constant guardian of us all.

We miss him so very much.

To keep his memory alive, I decided to get a portrait of him done by a very talented American artist Manda Wolfe - her Etsy store - her work is fun, colourful and out of the norm of "standard portraiture" and that is what drew me to her talent.

As you may have heard me say this before, I really need to make my way to the beautiful "Nest" on the north west coast of Tasmania - Penguin. It is on the list of things to do along with another trip to Hobart to visit MONA and a new home of That Vintage - ecoHaven; hopefully sooner rather than later!

An exciting box of new goodies from That Vintage has just been packaged up, bound for Nest - the contents this time are not wood... but they are the Tea Party jewellery range! (And Natalie at Nest is pretty excited about this!)

After many requests from shops asking to stock the Tea Party range, I have decided to let the little darlings fly the coup and be housed in beautiful locations like Nest - so expect to see more announcements of where you can find the Tea Party range in the future!

Yesterday I felt the need for a couple rest breaks from all of the jewellery orders that had accumulated whilst being away in New Zealand and (the unexpected extended holiday) in Melbourne.

So, with pencil in hand and a sheet of wax light paper, one of my favourite photographs from the shoot with Jesse Hunniford, 20 minutes of sketching ...wella!

Well, I did it - I finally packed my suitcases.

Last week, Tenille from Eels Jewellery + Scrimshaw + Objects posted a link on her twitter to a custom ring in her Etsy store - it was made from white bone and engraved with a heart design. I adored it. But I adored her ship illustrations more so.

So I requested a custom ring - black with a ship.

And wella!

It is much more beautiful in real life (my photographs don't do it justice) - the level of detail, the way the image feels when you touch it - you can tell that it would take someone with an immense amount of talent and patience to complete such a small piece.

They tied the lovey-dovey-marriage knot last week in a beautiful, Autumnal and intimate ceremony at the Josef Chromy Winery.
They are the creative souls behind Cheese House Productions, with oodles of talent between them both.

You may (or may not, it was such a long time ago!) remember that I made my first ever trip to Adelaide last September to visit my sister (who has now relocated to Perth!) and hunt out some stockists in the lovely food-bowl state.
Whilst I was there, I was lucky enough to meet up with the gorgeous Amanda Matulick, at a very cool arty-indie-left-of-center pub complete with ice-dripping chandeliers, to talk business.
I love hearing others desires and wishes when it comes to small business and their passion for handmade - Amanda had the dream of opening E For Ethel in the pipeline and wanted to include That Vintage in her dream.

Fast forward a number of months and well, that dream is quite the sweet reality now!
Amanda kindly sent me some very gorgeous product shots taken by the talented Jennifer Sando and I just had to share them with you!

The second part of the shoot on Thursday with Jesse Hunniford (L.U.S.Y Productions) was for the Tea Party range - this was such a fun shoot; the wallpaper that Ellie bought along was perfect; my favourite tea cups were featured, including the soft blue Royal Albert cup and saucer, which is one of my absolute pride and joys from my collection!
Jesse captured the very petite Tea Party jewellery perfectly - and Ellie did a fabulous job of looking fabulous!

Exhibit A.
Photoshoot with Jesse Hunniford of L.U.S.Y Productions and his beautiful lady Ellie - a classic black blazer, mustard yellow top, intense vibrant red hair and the new Framed Winter Brooches - of course, framed... with frames.
It took one model, one photographer and three assistants for this shoot - two (in which I was one of) holding flashes and one very kind Swedish gent taking on the title of "Frame Boy" - suspending the frame precariously in front of the camera.
Needless to say, I think that we are all experiencing the effects of "arm fatigue" - such a fun shoot and I'm more than impressed with the end result!
Kudo's to Mr Hunniford for being awesome.

I woke up in the middle of the night & felt something weird under my pillow. I felt around & to my surprise found this container full of chocolate buttons so I started eating away! The next morning, my mum screamed when she saw my face. I had fallen asleep while I was munching on the chocolate buttons so my face not to mention my hands & the bed were all covered in melted chocolate! My lola and were in big trouble. The wild, wild western city of Perth, Western Australia (not really that wild!) was once again, a great place for a holiday, it was lovely to see my sisters family and spend some time in some warmer weather!
In short, I visited Cottesloe beach and ate a delicious lunch at the Indiana Tea Rooms, checked out some cute shops such as Out On A Limb, experienced my very first T2 store at Garden City and found my newest drink-crush Pipsqueak cider by Little Creatures Brewery.
Now back to business!
